Particularly as the constant churn out of content can really dilute the quality and message behind it. Pruning some of this useless content is probably nothing but a good thing.

Good stuff!

I have a question. We are running a forex website where we publish a weekly currency analysis. Should we remove or update all those articles we published 1 or 2 years ago in our site? In case of updating the article, what to write there?

Thank you.

I have a question: I have a page on our website that ranks very well for keywords that are outside of our target niche. This page is basically a very successful infographics page about an irrelevant topic (irrelevant to my site’s target audience) and now this page has thousands of backlinks and gets the highest volume on our website in terms of page visits. Should I take that page offline (or no-index the page) to help with the rankings of the other pages that are in my target niche (which are targeting completely different keywords)? Or, is that irrelevant (yet high quality content) page harmless? My fear with taking that page offline is that loosing all the backlinks may hurt our website’s site authority, no? On the flip side, getting rid of that irrelevant page may increase other metrics overall (such as bounce rate, engagement etc).

You cannot remove pages from Google in the Robots.txt file. You need to add a noindex tag in the Meta Robots. Source @JohnMu from Google.

Other than that it is a good piece.

Gotch SEO talks about a similar topic to this one but you’ve added a nice little twist on there – love learning new techniques like this one so thank you guys!

It is up to you to prune you outdated or irrelevant content for a Search engine.
