One of the conundrums is that many of these web directories get indexed by Google very thoroughly, yet plenty of genuine content, especially on social media, does not. Anyway, my thinking is a couple of web directory entries from those of a decent domain authory (say 30+) won’t hurt and may actually help. I mean a couple. And yes, local, relevant directories such as Yelp and Google are helpful for SEO.

And this is what the article is claiming. That there are still good and important directories on the online world.

We appreciate the ideas and knowledgeable thoughts expressed. There are still directories that are strong and useful. Such as directories of law firms , where firms can be looked up under practice areas , geographical locations..
if the law directory has a reputable name eg find law, Martindale etc that opens up the use .or law speciality directoies

It is important for law firms to be listed in directories, it does produce business and inquires and referrals and increases visibility.

Law firms have usually spent a considerable amount of money and time to build versatile web sites and keep them current and make sure they are visible

The only way they can keep visible is by appearing in as many relevant law directories as possible .

Enjoyed your well, written concise article please place me on your e mailing lists .thankyou. Richard Bennett

Most important is joining a niche directory that is edited and strict about keeping listings on topic and unspammy.
Second is paying – free directories are indeed worthless.
Third is taking time to find local geo based directories – these are helpful and relevant in realtime.

I always answer emails, I keep it up to date with good editing. There will always be a need for those kinds of directories. Yes it is harder to draw traffic to a directory that is general in subject matter, but if it has good editing and is peppered with sites that are interesting it serves a purpose. And it continues to make decent money to this day.
